Mr. Eugene Smith, 81, of Albany, Georgia departed this life on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at his residence in Albany, Georgia. Homegoing Celebration will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. in the Floral Memory Gardens, 120 Old Pretoria Road, Albany, Georgia 31701. Mr. Eugene Smith was born February 3, 1940 in Rincon, Georgia to the late Mr. Joseph Smith and the late Mrs. Celia Green Smith.

At an early age he moved to Savannah, Georgia and joined Hanna Chapel AME Church, which is now Flipper Chapel. He was a faithful member. He was educated in the Chatham County School System and graduated from Beach High School. After graduation, he attend Savannah State College, where he major in Industrial Arts. After completing college, he joined the Army He served four years and finished with an Honorable Discharge. He later attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois where he received his Masters in Industrial Arts. He received a T-6 at Florida State University.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Connie Smith on December 21, 1971. There were blessed with three children during their 49 years of marriage. Garrick Smith, Albany, Georgia, Derrick Smith, East Point, Georgia and Mondel Smith, Fayetteville, Georgia.

He was a faithful member at Cray’s Chapel CME Church, where he served as a Steward, Trustee Superintendent of the Sunday School and Teacher for many years. He retired in the Dougherty County School System after 32 years of teaching.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife Connie Smith; one daughter Thera Jean Donaldson of Covington, Georgia; four sons, Terry (Juanita) Smith of Marrero, LA, Garrick (Jackie) Smith of Albany, GA, Derrick Smith of East Pont, GA, Mondel Smith of Fayetteville, GA; One Sister, Fred Lou Barnes of Savannah, GA; One Brother, Joseph Glenn (Maxine) Smith of Conway, AK; three Grandsons, Sean Smith, Isaiah Smith and Joshua Smith; four Granddaughters, Mya (Nathan) Butler, Ashley Renee Smith, Christiana Smith and Naomi Smith. Great- Grandchildren: Danae Williams, Bailey Butler, Reagan Buther, Zachary Butler, Myles Butler and Tatum Smith. One Aunt, Mrs. Lillie Bell Davis of Charleston, SC, one sister-in-law, Ivory Johnson of Orlando, FL, two brother-in-laws; James (Polly) Roberts of Albany, GA, I.V. Roberts, Jr. of Orlando, FL, one God Daughter Alyiah Brown of Albany, GA and one Godson, Santos Vanquez of Albany, GA and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
