Mrs. Joann Reynolds Prince, 71, of Albany, Georgia departed this life on Thursday, February 12, 2021 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the Floral Memory Gardens, 120 Old Pretoria Road, Albany, Georgia 31707. Joann Reynolds Prince was born on February 27, 1949, in
Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Mr. Wilson Reynolds, Sr., and Annie
Bell Williams Speed. She was raised by the late Mrs. Allean McTier
(Honey). In 1968, at an early age, she confessed her faith in Christ
and joined Apostolic Shallow Holiness Church, under the leadership
of Rev. Williams of Jacksonville, Florida, and later moved her
membership to First Albany Deliverance Cathedral of Albany,
Georgia, but resided in Sylvester, Georgia, where she assisted Pastor/
Overseer Katheen Green of Sylvester Holiness Deliverence Church.
She later became a member of New Covenant Church of Albany,
Georgia, where she was an assistant with the Youth Ministry, the
name of which was later changed to Connections Church. There, she
held the position of an Elder and became an Interim Pastor of the
Church for about two years.
Joann's educational journey began at Douglas Anderson School of
the Arts of Jacksonville, Florida, where she completed her 12 years
of education. She attended Florida State College in Jacksonville,
Florida. She later moved to Albany, Georgia, where she attended
Christian Life School of Theology (CLST), from which she received
her Doctorate in 1997. She later attended Albany Technical College
and obtained her Early Childhood Education Certification in 2004.
Joann began teaching and working with children at Albany MCLB
Marine Base Pre-K/Head Start School in 1985, which was her first
love. Working with children was her passion. She retired in 2010.
Joann, also known as Mama Jo, was well-known throughout the
community, surrounding counties, cities, and various states, especially
Georgia and Florida. She has been a minister, motivator, encourager,
counselor, public speaker, and storyteller, known for reading stories
for corporate meetings and banquets such as Quail Unlimited at their
banquets in Albany, Georgia. She also loved photography, taking
pictures, and making scrap books. She was known for her kindness
and beautiful smile when greeting people. She was an all-around
people person who showed love to everyone she encountered.
Joann was preceded in death by her loving brother, Mr. Wilson
Reynolds, Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida.
She leaves a legacy of love to cherish her memories: a loving
husband, Mr. Joseph Prince of Albany, GA; a loving daughter,
Tameka Smith of Albany, GA; two grandchildren, Lea Smith
and Aiden Smith, both of Albany, GA; two godsons, Ellis
McCullough of Sylvester, GA and Desmond Simmons of Albany,
GA; six loving sisters, Naomi Crowder, Maggie McDaniels
(James), Barbara Killian, Stacy Reynolds, Rejeanna Norris, and
Carolyn Speed, all of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Michale Speed
(Pam), Thaddeus West, and Leroy West (Patricia), all of Jacksonville,
FL; mother-in-law, Josie B. Thomas; five sisters-in-law and five
brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-
nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
