Ms. Betty D. Williams, 82, of Albany, Georgia passed September 10, 2020 at her home. Funeral service will be Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. in the Riverside/Oakview Cemetery, 200 Cotton Ave, Albany, Georgia. Meadows Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bettye Dorothy Williams, affectionately, known as “Bettye D.” entered this earthly journey September 3, 1938 to the late Petrie Floyd, Sr. and Mary Floyd in Mitchell County, GA. Bettye D. was preceded in death by her sisters Louise Banks, Jeanie Robinson, Sallie O’Neal and brother, Petrie Floyd, Jr.

A Time to Sow...
Bettye D. accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She was a servant of God and faithful member for over 40 years of the Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. John A. Severson of Albany, GA. As a devoted member, she sang in the senior choir, served on the No. 2 usher board and the grant committee until the Lord transitioned her home.

A Time to Recap...
Bettye D. was a 1957 graduate of Madison High School, currently known as Monroe Comprehensive High School. Bettye attended Albany State College, currently known as Albany State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree and later earned her master’s degree in Education. She served as an educator for Marion County, Terrell County, and the Dougherty County School Systems. She retired from the Dougherty County School System after teaching 35 years. During her tenure, she positively impacted the lives of countless students.

Bettye D. dedicated her life to the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s. Committed to the cause, she marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to ensure African Americans not only had the right vote, but their civil liberties would be honored for other generations.

Bettye D. loved to travel all over the world, especially with her beloved Ram Rooters Club. She LOVED HER ASU!! Even more, she was a member of the American Legion Post 512 for 54 years where she served as past state president, district president, department president, unit president and treasurer.

A Time to Rest...
God’s master plan was fulfilled in the life of Bettye D. Williams on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at home with loved ones. She transitioned home to be with the Lord.

A Time to Mourn...
She leaves to cherish precious memories by her sister Patricia A. Sheppard of Albany, GA, her brother Donald R. Floyd (Angela) of Norfolk VA, God-brother Jessie A. James, Sr. (Carol) of Albany, GA, nephew and God-son Winslow Floyd (Rhonda) of Suffolk, VA, God-son Demetrius James of Albany, GA, God-daughter Jacsha Bailey of Albany, GA and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Bettye D. was a loving sister, aunt, godmother, and friend to all who knew her. She will be truly be missed by those that have been, without end, impacted by her life of service.
