Mr. Kermit Chevena Brooks, 70, of Albany, Georgia departed this life Friday, May 22, 2020 at The Medical Center, Navicent Health of Macon, Georgia. Graveside services will be Friday, May 29, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. in the Riverside/Oakview Cemetery, 200 Cotton Ave, Albany, Georgia. Meadows Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kermit Chevene Brooks was born to the late Estella Gaines Brooks and Willie Brooks of Albany, Georgia on June 17, 1949.  He joined Second Bethesda Baptist Church at an early age and recommitted himself to Christ on October 27, 1981.

Educated in the public schools of Dougherty County, he graduated from Monroe High School in 1968 and attended Albany State College. He served in The United States Navy on the USS Basilone during the Vietnam War.  For many years  he was employed at Firestone and later The Marine Corps Logistics Base, where he retired from in Augusta 2010. He was a dedicated member of the Monroe High School Class of 1968, serving as Vice President. A sports enthusiast, his love of sports began while a member of the Monroe High School Golden Tornadoes basketball team. He served as a mentor, referee and friend to many athletes in his community. Photography was his passion as he videoed and photographed athletic events, weddings, family and class reunions. He had God given skills and talents that enabled him to build, invent and remodel most anything.

Kermit made his transition on Friday, May 22, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Henry Brooks, Hillman Brooks and Larry Brooks; and two sisters Veronica Brooks and Wardell Brooks Cummings.

To cherish his loving and caring memory he leaves his wife Mrs. Sherrie Lewis Brooks of Albany; two daughters, Mrs. Tracy Brooks Hunt (Tenoah), and Shaunte Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; one son, Troy Brooks (Brittney) of Albany; one stepson, Gregory Antonio Lewis, also of Albany; one sister, Mrs. Elmira Brooks Whitfield of Leesburg, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Tenoah Hunt II, Trenton Hunt and Maurice McClucky III of Atlanta; Janiah Williams, Troy Brooks Jr, Tahir Williams, Sermori Williams, and Aryaa Brooks of Albany. Also, cherishing his memory are six sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law: Bridget Lake (Calvin), Mary Humphrey (Horace), Carrie Kirkland, Chanta Lee (James), all of Albany; Sonja Harbard (Paul) of London, England; and Eddie James Lewis of Sparks, Nevada. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends will keep him indelibly sketched in their hearts.
