Gloria “Jeannie” McElroy, age 70, departed this earth peacefully on May 11, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her daughter and granddaughter.  Jeannie was born on August 28, 1949 in Chattanooga Tennessee to the late Wallace Jackson and the late Helen McElroy.  A lifelong member of Second Missionary Baptist Church, she served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board.  Jeannie graduated with Honors from Riverside High School as a proud member of the Class of 1967.  Upon graduating, she attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tn.  She spent numerous years as a healthcare worker, employed by Siskin Hospital in Chattanooga Tn. In addition to her mother and father, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Samuel McElroy.  She loved her family and spent numerous vacations attending out of state family reunions.  In her later years, she was the first one to answer the call to care for ill family members.  She took pride in faithfully caring for every need of ailing family members. The source of her greatest joy was serving as mother to Renata and grandmother to Rionna.  She and Renata loved to watch soap operas and Tyler Perry shows for hours upon hours. While serving as Rionna’s personal Uber, they enjoyed eating out, shopping and going for banana splits at Bruster’s. She is survived by her loving daughter, Renata Ramsey; granddaughter Rionna Bins; Special Aunt Lurline Smith (Detroit MI); Special Cousin, Leon Jackson; goddaughter, Lorean May; godson, Steven Bush; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Public viewing will begin at 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the funeral home. A private funeral service will be held.  Interment: Highland Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.
