Arthur Waller, 76, beloved father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend transitioned to heaven on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at his home. He was preceded in death by his father, Pope Waller and mother, Jylene Waller. He was a 1961 graduate of Howard High School where he was an awesome track star and all-around great student. He attended Tennessee State University, however, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country as a Medic. Upon completing his duty he enrolled in McKenzie College and received his Associate in Science Degree. He retired from Combustion Manufacturing at the age of 53. He was a faithful member of Greater Friendship P.B. Church where he worshipped for over 50 years. He served as president of the Usher Board, member of the Trustee Board, Male Chorus and Kitchen Committee. Arthur was an avid traveler, excellent card player and prolific bowler. He was a member of several bowling teams. His outstanding skills amounted to him winning multiple city league championships. He bowled several 297, 298, and 299 games but the “Perfect 300” score always seemed to elude him. He served as the Vice-President of the local Tennessee Bowling Association Senate. He was also President of the Good Neighbors Association in Chattanooga. He was the happiest when he was doing charity work and helping others. He will always be loved and remembered by all who knew him. Those to cherish his memory include his devoted caretaker and loving sister, Estella Waller Smith; his loving and caring children, Arthur Derrick, Shonta (Willie) Caldwell, Artez (Ramona) Waller; devoted niece, LaTrecia “Shay” Smith; loving cousin, Bettie (John) Elder; grandchildren, Willie Caldwell Lucius, Ke’Shawn, Artez, Amira, Asuri, and Keyara; a host of other loving family members and friends. A lie in state will be held 8:30 – 10:30 am Monday, May 18, 2020 at the funeral home. A private funeral service will be held. Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery. Arrangements by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.

We have stayed in contact with each other for 60 years,TSU 1960 till now. We were in a Bid Whist Society of a group of individuals numbering 20 or more that were really close. You were always a leader. We played partners and against each other, all the way you were a hard charger across the card table no matter what the game was. You were a very good friend for such a long time, I got to know your mom, dad and sister and the mother of your children. Rest in peace dear friend.
