Vaughn Haywood, at the age of 84, entered eternal rest on March 18, 2020 at Hospice Home, West End, NC. He was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife, Rosa J Haywood; may they rest in peace.

Vaughn was born in Mt Gilead, NC to Cora and Lamar Haywood on September 14, 1935.  He grew up with eight (8) siblings: 3 brothers and 5 sisters.  The struggles of having a large family in his youth motivated him to strive for greatness. He began his journey by first graduating from Peabody High School in 1955.  Then venturing out to New Haven CT in 1956, he began working at Sargents Manufacturing Company in the powder coating department.  During his time at Sargents, he rose to the position as the First African American Foreman in 1968. Then onto Plant Supervisor until retiring in 1996.  While working at Sargents, Vaughn held down part-time jobs at various locations. Vaughn was no stranger to hard work. He worked hard to provide for his wife and children. He even invested in rental properties to build a comfortable life for his family.

In Vaughn's spare time he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Prince Hall affiliate, as well as an Arabic Shriner.  His hobbies included Sargents’ Bowling League. He enjoyed being with his family and friends most of all.  He was full of infinite wisdom and knowledge which he did not mind passing on to all those willing to listen and learn.

He is survived by His children: Carmen L. Ray, Vera E. Franklin (Donald), Floyd S. Haywood, Claudine H. Haywood, Deborah N. Haywood, Kim R. Johnson, Lisa Whitley, Sharon Whitley (Gregory), Tony Whitley, Christine Whitley, Janet Whitley, and Benjamin Godwin; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Three (3) brothers: Colon Haywood (Doreatha), James Haywood, and Atlas Collins (Pearlie); five (5) sisters: Annie Ruth Morrison, Barbara Ann Streeter, Carolyn McCaskill, Patricia Ann Streeter, and Linda Collins.  One (1) sister-in-law Elnora Haywood.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Vaughn was predeceased by two (2) brothers, Barry Haywood and Samuel Haywood; two (2) sisters, Geraldine Collins and Addie Lee Little; one (1) daughter Denise Whitley, and one (1) grandson, Chevon Correa.

The graveside memorial service was held on Thursday, March 26, 2020, 11:00am, Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery, Mt. Gilead, North Carolina.

All flowers and sentiments are welcomed.  Memorial contributions may be sent to 124 Sallie Drive, Candor, NC.
