MR. ROBERT JUNIOR PARKER

On March 6, 2020 God called ROBERT J. PARKER, fondly known by his family and friends as “Bobby”, to his heavenly home.  Bobby was born August 19, 1955 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania to Mr. Robert Myers and Mrs. Inez Parker Grove-Green.  He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Mrs. Prochia Lee Lowery and Mr. Artis Lowery.

Bobby graduated from Pageland High School in Pageland, SC.  He later enlisted in the US Army where he achieved various awards including:  Expert Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Marksman (M-16 Rifle) and worked as an Administrative Clerk. 

He was reared in Salem United Methodist Church in Pageland, SC.  He later attended Victory Christian Center, Charlotte, NC for over 10 years.  Bobby loved helping people and as he saw different needs of the community, he reached out to help.

Bobby was the 1st African American male to start the Black Farmers Settlement in Chesterfield County, SC (the towns of Pageland, Chesterfield and Cheraw).  He was also a Paralegal.  Bobby worked for an attorney for many years and also used his expertise in the legal field to assist others in understanding the law of the land.  He believed in helping others.

He was married to Mary J. Tillman.  To this union 3 sons were born.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert “Bobby” Myers and Inez Grove-Green and his aunt and uncle, Artis and Prochia Lowery.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: His wife of 42 years, Mary J. Parker of the home.  Three sons: Robert Parker Jr., Michael Parker both of Polkton, NC and Cedric Parker (Marianna) of Mint Hill, NC.  One grandson, Elijah Cole Parker of Mint Hill, NC.  Seven sisters: Belinda Grove, Sondra Lee (Derrick) Davis, Debra (Terry) Sturdivant, Bernadette (Charlie) Chambers, Majorie (Fredrick) Price, Diane (Donnie) Rivers and Krystal Myers.  Seven brothers: Reginald (Nettie) Grove, Isaac (Angela) Grove, Samson (Elizabeth) Grove, Nathaniel (Jennifer) Grove, Zachery (Allison) Grove, Demetrius (Maggie) Joseph and Timothy (Dana) Grove.  His dear mother-in-law whom he respected and cherished, Mother Cledora Tillman of Polkton, NC.  Four brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.




The Homegoing Service were held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, 2:00pm, Poplar Hill Baptist Church, Polkton, North Carolina.  Interment was at the Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, North Carolina.
