Robert James Farris, Sr., 70, also known as “Pete” by family and friends, was born on December 3, 1948 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Clifford Augusta and Georgia Igou Farris.  He was one of ten siblings. He gave his life to Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church.  He graduated from Riverside High School, and attended Tennessee State University for a short time before he found his calling, serving the country that he loved so very much.  Sgt. First Class Farris was a retired United States Army Veteran.  He fought in the Vietnam War, and had active tours in Germany and Korea.  He worked as a military policeman on several army bases before being promoted to recruiter. He was the station commander at two different recruiting stations before retiring in 1992 as a ranking E7.  Pete married Barbara Joy Bush on June 13, 1969, with her, he fathered three sons, who blessed him with five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. On August 26, 2019, Pete took his last breaths, and went to join Barbara in heaven.  She preceded him in death by less than four months.  He was a strong, proud, family man.  The ultimate patriarch, that left no business unfinished. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gregory Bernard, Clifford Edwin, Reginald Lebron, and Robert McDaniel. Still here to cherish his memory are his sisters, Ruby Maye, Faye Ann, Mildred Elaine, Joy Lee, and Shirley Evangeline; They are joined by a host of friends and family that include faithful in-laws, and adoring nieces and nephews too countless to name with for devoted niece and caregiver, Edna Marie Freeman; Pete also left a strong legacy survived by his three sons, Robert James, Jr. (Kaycee Danner), Kelvin Demond, and Amaad Rashaad (Erin); granddaughters, Summer Cherelle Bramblett, Brianna Lee, Amiya Joy, Deja Lainayia, Khyasia Leigh Scruggs; great grandsons, Bentlee Mason Bramblett, Caysen James Young, and Kameron Dejuan Dixon; a host of other relatives and friends. Public viewing will be held after 12 noon Tuesday, September 3, 2019, and the family will receive friends from 6 – 7 pm at the funeral home.  The funeral service will be at 1 pm Wednesday, September 4th in the chapel.  Interment:  Chattanooga National Cemetery Arrangements by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995
