Reverend Dennis Lee Wilson was born on April 26, 1944 to the late Dennis Wilson and Mildred Williams Wilson in Gastonia, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his brother James A. Wilson and leaves behind one brother, Kenneth B. Wilson (Janice Wilson).

Rev. Wilson accepted Christ as his personal LORD and Savior at a young age at Friendship Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member/president and trustee. Rev. Wilson served as pastor at Pleasant Plain Missionary Baptist Church in Lancaster, South Carolina. He later joined Greater Mount Hebron Baptist Church where he also served as interim pastor and then as the founding pastor of Blessed Assurance Outreach Ministries.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961 as valedictorian. Continuing his education, he received an Associate in Arts degree from Gaston College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Management from Shaw University.

Rev. Wilson served in the United States Army from 1967-1969. He completed a tour in Vietnam. He was then the first African American chemist for Gaylord division of Burlington Industries, an account executive for Southern Bell Telephone Company and an independent insurance salesman until retirement. Rev. Wilson also enjoyed giving back to the community. He was a long-time substitute teacher for Gaston County Schools and volunteered for many organizations.

In 1967, Rev. Wilson married Ellen Diane Neely, whom he has preceded in death. To this union three children were born: April Denise Wilson-Goodwin (Alvin Goodwin, Jr.), Julian Scott Wilson (Althea Wilson), and Mark Franklin Wilson, all of whom he leaves to cherish his memory. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren-W. Joshua Melton, IV, A. Danielle Montgomery (Omar Montgomery), J. Christina Melton, Jacob J. Miller, Michal J. Miller, Kayla J. Wilson, Aiden E. Wilson and Addison K. Wilson; four great-grandchildren- Imani Toomer, Triceston Miller, Kehlani Miller and Carter Montgomery; four nieces and nephews-Amanda Wilson Cooper, James A. Wilson, Warren R. Wilson and Tyler D. Wilson; two aunts-Maime Torrence and Theretha Williams; as well as a host of great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, family members, and friends.

Rev. Wilson was a faithful member of the Golden Rule Lodge #82 and as Commander of the National Association for Black Veterans (NABVETS) Faith Chapter #0065. He enjoyed studying the Word of GOD, preaching, talking to everyone he met, singing and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral: Saturday; August 24, 2019; 2:00 p.m., Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 5504 Little Mountain Rd, Gastonia

Visitation: one hour before the service at the church

Interment: Tuesday; August 27, 2019; 2:00 p.m.; Salisbury National Cemetery; 501 Statesville Blvd, Salistury
