Lucille Nichols Byrd, the daughter of the late Oscar Nichols and Mary Liza Farley Nichols, was born on February 2, 1933, in Lincolnton, North Carolina. She gained her wings on August 12, 2019. Proceeding her in death, her husband Albert Lewis Nichols, and her sons, Calvin Lewis Byrd, Ricky Eugene Boyd and grandson Calvin Lewis Jr.

Lucille “LuLu” Nichols Byrd was a devoted Christian and a mother to all. Her heart was filled with an abundance of love. Lucille’s smile warmed up the room and her unselfish ways made her one of a kind. She was introduced to her husband, Albert, through her brother Glenwood. They later married and from this union they had Lorentha, Calvin and adopted son Ricky. Years later they relocated to Detroit, Michigan where she became a devoted member of St. Mary’s F.B.H. Church. She was saved at an early age, sanctified, baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. Lucille worked and retired from Detroit Public School System.

Leaving Detroit after the death of her husband and son, Lucille moved back to North Carolina where she raised three grandchildren, Timothy Byrd, Ka’Ren Byrd and Alberta Byrd. She unselfishly took care of her sister Equlia “Qute” Nichols until she preceded her in death. She eventually joined St. Paul F.B.H. Church of God. With only an 8th grade education she witnessed all her grandkids graduate from high school, and four from college. God blessed her to bring forth to love and be loved by five generations. She raised them to be outstanding individuals, as well as followers of Christ. Lucille not only touched those around her but also her community and she will never be forgotten.

Lucille grew up in a loving home filled with 8 brothers and 2 sisters: Willie Oscar, Georgia Ann, Glenwood, Thomas, Equlia, Celester, and Allen, who preceded her in death. Survived by her daughter Lorentha Granberry (William) of Detroit, Michigan; brothers James “Jim” Nichols, Robert Nichols (Ossie), and Esther Nichols (Betty); 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

To Lorentha Byrd -Grandberry and the Byrd Family: In remembrance of your mother, Mother Lucille Byrd who was a sanctified, saved, and Virtuous Women of God. I meet her and her spouse, Louis Byrd in September of 1973 for the first time. She was my mentor, an example of living holy, a witness for Christ, and a mighty, prayer warrior. After work, she would have us to pray on our knees during the week and fast, sometimes twice or three times a week. While still maintaining her responsibilities not only as a wife and mother, but a pastor’s wife as well. At home and abroad, she showed and witness about the love of Christ. A virtuous women, Proverbs 31. Thinking of you all at this difficult time with much love and a special prayer. That the Lord will always keep you and your loved ones safely in His Arms. Please find comfort ( 2 Cor. 1:3-4), hope (Acts 24:15) and strength (Isaiah 40:29) in knowing that others care. With prayers and love, Evangelist Pearl Foster and Family
