Joel DeShawn Ervin, Sr. was born August 21, 1981 in Jacksonville, Florida. He passed from this life into his eternal rest on July 30, 2019. Joel was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Ervin, Sr. He joined New United Baptist Church at a very young age. Joel was a 1999 graduate of Brainerd High School. He later attended Knox Beauty Academy and Chattanooga State Community College. He leaves to cherish his memory 4 sons, Joel Ervin, Jr., Joseph Ervin, Jamarii Ervin and Jamonii Ervin; step-son Nataveus Mcghee; father, George W. Ervin, Jr. .; mother, Felecia Smith of Chicago, IL; brother, Cordaro Ervin; sisters, Tara (Terrell)Stephens of Macon, GA., Kiarra Ervin of Virginia, Karnika (Dexter) Thompson of Murfreesboro, TN., Naamah Brown and Susan Winfield of IL; devoted aunts, Eleanor Warren and Joanne Favors of Chattanooga, Linda Ervin of St. Louis, MO and Juanita Ervin from Newark, CA; uncle, Richard Ervin; grandmother, Brittie Ervin. The body will lie in state beginning at 9:00 am until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2019.  A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.     This one is hard. I went to school with "Jo-Jo" from 6th grade through 12th grade. He was one of the nicest guys around. Always smiling, kidding and having a good time. I hope that God's grace provide comfort to his children and family during this most difficult time. May the memories you all shared live forever.
