Mrs. Azaline Butler

Mrs. Azaline Rackley Butler, was born to the Late Mr. Bryant Rackley and Mrs. Rosie Crowell Rackley in Butler, AL. She was one of 11 children born to this couple.

Mrs. Butler attended the public schools in Choctaw County, Alabama.  She furthered her learning at Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL, where she earned a Bachelor Degree in Early childhood Education, Library Science and a Specialist degree in Media Studies. Her Post Graduate Studies began at Florida A&M University Tallahassee, FL and Pratt University in Brooklyn, NY. She began her professional career as an elementary school teacher in the Choctaw County Public School System, as a Librarian at Florida A&M University and later she worked for over 30 years as a Librarian/Media Specialists in the Brooks County School System in Quitman, GA. Sister Butler was joined in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Ivory Alexander Butler of Ocala, FL. To this union, two children were born: A daughter, Ivorynetta Butler who too preceded her in transition and a son, Mark D. Butler Tallahassee, FL.

As a member Beta Delta Sigma Chapter of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, she was happy to channel her energies to humankind via her beloved Sisterhood.  

At an early age, she confessed her faith in a gentle and loving Jesus and joined Wahalak Baptist Church in Butler, AL. As a devoted wife and young adult she joined Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. Upon her moving to Quitman, GA she joined Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. Later on Ms. Butler returned to Alabama to reside closely to her siblings. During this time she joined St. Mark Missionary Baptist Tuskegee, AL.

From her sweet journey and rich legacy she leaves to cherish: a son Mark D. Butler, Tallahassee, FL; Sisters: Rosie L. Wallace of Butler, AL, Annie L. Bascomb of Tuskegee, AL; and Ruby Tinsley of Auburn, AL; A brother: Benjamin Rackley of Tuskegee, AL; Sisters-in-law: Barbara Rackley of Tuskegee, AL; and Linda McClendon of Newark, NY; and host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Friday, July 26, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at First Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville, GA with Rev. Emory Virgil officiating. Burial followed in the Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee, FL. Condolences may be made by visiting  Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
