Solomon Curtis “Butch” Hayhurst, Jr., 75, a resident of Sierra County for 45 years, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2019.  He was born on July 7, 1944 in Gallup, NM to Solomon Curtis Hayhurst, Sr. and Alma Beatrice Townsend.  Butch served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a Game and Fish Warden for the State of New Mexico.  He was a member of the NRA and the VFW 3317.  Butch enjoyed woodworking, gunsmithing, hunting, and above all, being the BEST grandpa a girl could ever have.  He was survived by his wife of 50 years, Keva (Williams) Hayhurst, before her death on August 1, 2019.  Other survivors include his daughter, Keri Hayhurst; granddaughter, Kodi Hayhurst; siblings – Rosemary Wright (Chuck), Don Hayhurst, Richard Mills (Cindy) and Carolyn Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Alma Hayhurst; and by Bill Hayhurst, Jim and Kitty Mills, Brian Hayhurst, and Linda Blake.  Cremation has taken place and a combined Memorial Celebration Service for Butch and Keva  will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 10:00 A.M. at the Church at the Butte with David Mauldin officiating.
