A resident of Elephant Butte for 29 years, Bonnie Yvonne Kohler, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 20, 2019.

Bonnie was the second daughter born to George and Daisy Alex in Chicago on June 27, 1948. Bonnie met her husband to be on September 5, 1967 on their first day of Nursing School. Upon finishing training, they married on February 7, 1970 and continued to live in Chicago until May of 1979 when they moved to Albuquerque, NM. Besides working as a Nurse, she was more importantly the loving mother to her 4 children, three born in Chicago and one in Albuquerque.

Over the years, besides being a supportive, loving wife and mother, Bonnie developed interest in many other things: team mother for Laura’s Little League softball team; hot air ballooning crew member; Den mother for Cub Scouts and later, Assistant Scout Master for Doug’s scouting time. She had a great love for music and singing and was with the Community Chorus for years. She was on every church worship team, the most recent being the team at Church at the Butte. She and Bill both took part in the community theater, both acting and behind the scenes. Most recently, she was known as “MaMa Kohler” as a volunteer with the Elephant Butte Fire Department and also an active member of the Red Hat Ladies. Other interest included crafting in many different areas and not only learning Tai Chi but instructing others as well.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Elizabeth; parents, George and Daisy Alex; and her sister, Anne and her husband, Guy.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Bill, of Elephant Butte; daughters- Laura (James), of Albuquerque and Denise, of Edmunds, WA; son, Douglas, of Elephant Butte; and grandsons- Noah and Randall of Elephant Butte.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the Church at the Butte with Pastor Joe Byers officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bonnie's name to the Open Arms Pregnancy Center in T. or C.

It was a privilege to have known Bonnie for about 30 years. She was a very special person and would often visit me at my home where we would talk sometimes an hour or more on various subjects except politics. My mom and I enjoyed the Kohler family company while camping at the lake for many years. We will all miss her very much.
