It is with great sadness that the family of Curtis Robert ‘Sap’ Johnson announces that he gained his heavenly wings at home on July 17, 2019. He was born on April 28, 1959 in Gastonia, NC and is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Katherine Johnson.

Curtis will be forever remembered by his wife, Regina, his daughters, Stephanie Sprinkle (Robert) and Veronica Adams as well as his grandchildren, Kelcey (Pooh Girl) Adams, Jamie Adams, Chris Adams and Trent Bailey, all of Gastonia. He leaves his six sisters: LaVaughn Jackson Beatty, Frances Randolph, Sara Hill (Elmore), and Doris Johnson, all of Gastonia, Sandra Johnson of Durham, Patsy ‘Pat’ Frazelle of Greensboro, and his two brothers: James ‘Jolly’ Johnson and Steve Johnson of Cramerton and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Curtis was a quiet, kind and loving husband, brother, father and grandfather who was deeply loved by his family. He was a man of few words but always had a smile and a helping hand for anyone, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Curtis enjoyed fishing, softball, bubblegum and had a fondness for all animals and he also loved going on ice cream dates with his wife.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 22nd, 2019 at Neely’s Grove AME Zion Church, 3321 S. New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC with visitation starting at 12:30pm and the service starting at 1pm.
