Obituary

Yvonne Mitchell Holmes, age 66 of Newnan, GA., passed away peacefully on June 25th, 2019.  She was born on November 14th, 1952 to the late Elder Ruzzie Mitchell and Ruth Mitchell of Atlanta, GA.  Yvonne opened her heart to God and received the Holy Spirit at an early age. Her favorite passage from the Bible was Psalms 40:1-17. One of her favorite quotes was, “It’s about family.”

Yvonne was first and foremost a dedicated mother. She cherished her children and embraced every moment with them to the very end.  She especially loved her roles as Nana, Grandma and GiGi.  She loved each of her grand and great-grandchildren beyond words.  She was a woman of God who loved to worship and spread His Word.  She had a vivacious personality that made people laugh around her.  Her beautiful smile and laugh would brighten your day. She met no strangers and would give her last to anyone in need.  She was know by friends, family, and colleagues as either “Hollywood” or “Diva", due to the stylish way she dressed and wore her hair.

Yvonne spent many years employed by the United States Bankruptcy Court of Newnan, GA.  She received numerous awards of recognition for her outstanding service during her tenure.  They loved her like family; in fact at every work place celebration/gathering, they would ask her to bring in a crockpot of her mouth-watering grits (this continued even after her retirement in 2016).

Yvonne loved spending time with her family, and would stop whatever she was doing to be there for us.  She loved going on cruises and traveling with her brother, sisters, cousins, and other family members. To know her was to love her.  It may have been sooner than we would’ve liked, but God called home a beautifully-made angel.  We love you and miss you deeply.

Yvonne is survived by Mario (Danielle) Holmes, Sr. (son), Cherilyn “Cher" Holmes (daughter), Stacie Boles, Mario Holmes, Jr., Malique Holmes, Malcolm Holmes, Massiah Holmes, Tiona Herndon (grandchildren), Miliyon Walton and Maliki Boles (great-grandchildren). Oldest sister-Lillie Ruth Anderson (Chicago, IL); Sisters-Vickie Mitchell, Faith (Ralph) Davis (Boiling Spring, SC); Brothers-Ronald Mitchell (Rome, GA) and Timothy Mitchell (Atlanta, GA); Evangelist Annette Mitchell (Stepmother), Christine Swan (Aunt), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

My sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. Death is truly an enemy and soon Jehovah God will eliminate it permanently and resurrect those lost in death. In fact, he yearns to do so. It is his promise and he cannot lie. May his promise bring you comfort. (Job 14:14,15)

I want to offer my condolences to the Family and friends. Hebrews 4:15 says, “ For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tested in all respects as we have, but without sin.” Yes, Jesus endured sufferings when on earth, including the pain of losing a love one (John 11: 33, 35, 38). It has been promised from our God of comfort that sickness, pain, and death will be removed ((Isaiah 33:24; 1 Corinthians 15:26; Revelation 21:4,5). An additional promise given is that all our loved ones in the memorial tombs will awaken from asleep in death to enjoy life as our loving Creator purposed (Isaiah 26:19; Psalms 145:16). Allow these words to keep comforting all of you.

My sincere condolences goes out to the family during this difficult time. There is nothing more unnatural than for a parent to bury his or her child. The Bible at Acts 24:15 provides us hope of a resurrection in which we will be able to see our loved ones again. It is my hope that you continue to turn to the God of all comfort ( 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 ) by daily reading  the Bible and accepting the comfort from others. You may also visit this website https://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/what-is-the-resurrection/ for additional comfort.
