Mr. James Gillins, 85, of Crescent City, FL, was born on Wednesday, April 4, 1934, in Gainesville, FL to James and Lula Gillins.  He grew up in Hawthorne, FL, where he attended Alachua County Public Schools.  Mr. Gillins, also known as Noon, later moved to Crescent City, FL, and wasted no time getting familiar with the small town as a young man.  Mr. Gillins, who was known to fight, was so involved in the community, that the Police Department of Crescent City offered him a job.  He served the community well, and retired as a Lieutenant from the Crescent City Police Department after 24 years. During this time, Mr. Gillins met and later married the love of his life, Judy C. Allen.  After retiring from the Police Department, Mr. Gillins became self-employed and worked many other jobs.  He was known as a “go getter,” as he was a hardworking man with many talents.  Mr. Gillins was a great provider and loved all his children, especially his baby girl, Shanice.  He was well known in the neighborhood and community. There wasn’t a person who he wouldn’t stop and talk to or offer a ride into town. If he was able to help you, he would.  Mr. Gillins  enjoyed fishing, talking and spending time with family and friends.  He was affiliated with Jethro First Baptist Church and later joined Friendship Baptist Church, where Rev. Michael Robert is pastor. He was an amazing man with a beautiful soul. Mr. Gillins will always be remembered by his captivating smile and laugh.

Mr. James Gillins was preceded in death by his father, James Gillins; mother, Lula Gillins; sons, Terrance Gillins and Eddie Foster; brother, Fred Gillins; sisters, Inez Gillins, Lula Mae Ruthley, Saddy Gordon and Thelma Manning. 

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving, devoted wife of 42 years, Judy C. Gillins; Five daughters: Shanice Gillins, Ny’laya Gillins, Regina Gillins, Demetrice Golden and Nina M. Rolle (Vendor); Nine sons: Demus Allen (Christy), John Allen (Ashley), Jamaria Gillins, Gerald Foster (Nacarsha), Corey Foster, Greg Reese, Darryll Reese, Isaiah Gillins and Ronnie Gillins; Two brothers: Frank Gillins (Dorothy) and Eddie Gillins; Sister: Lulla Gillins; A devoted daughter in law, Christy Allen, whom he called, “Monkey;” 40 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 9 godchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

The viewing will be Friday, June 21, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church South Campus, Rev. Karl Flagg, Pastor.  The Homegoing Celebration will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church.  Rev. Scott Golden, eulogist.  The burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City, FL.
