MRS. MARY HELEN PARKER BENNETT

Mary Helen Bennett (affectionately known as Mae Helen) passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 21, 2019 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe.  She lived a full life of 91 years.  She was born in Wadesboro on December 16, 1927, to James Samuel and Sally (Washington) Parker.  She attended Russellville School and completed her education at Anson County Training School (later known as Faison School).

She was married to the late John Thomas Bennett for more than 30 years, and devotedly raised two daughters and a granddaughter.  She worked in the textile industry, including Anson Apparel, Anson Shirt and Ballet Hosiery.

She committed her life to Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Brown Creek Baptist Church in Wadesboro.  There, she served as the church clerk for nearly 40 years, president of the missionary circle, superintendent of Sunday School and on numerous committees.  One of her favorite songs to sing in church declare, "I'm going to hide behind the mountain, where the chilly winds don't blow.  Jesus is that mountain."  She was a quiet but strong force with an unwavering faith.

She loved to sew and could make anything for anybody-from Easter suits to ball gowns.  She also enjoyed cooking and baking and will be fondly remembered for her coconut cakes and sweet potato cobblers.  For many years, she volunteered at the polls on Election Day and for the Share Food Program of Anson County.

Blessed to continue her legacy are her daughters, Brenda Smith and Margaret Parker White; grandchildren, Synovia Dione Lehman (Brandon) and Stacey McCray (Ontrell); great grandchildren, Avery and Colten McCray; devoted friend, Marion Young; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Services to Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mother Bennett were held on Saturday, May 25, 2019, 3:30pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.  Burial followed in Westview Memorial Park, Highway 74-West, Wadesboro, North Carolina.

Margaret, I am so sorry to hear of your mother's death. I know you can be overwhelmed with sorrow and grief. I must share a heartwarming thought from the Bible that hopefully will bring comfort to you. "For if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus." -1 Thess. 4:14. You will remain in my prayers and thoughts during this most difficult time.

May you find comfort and strength in knowing that God loves you and he cares for you, through talking to God in prayer, and from God's Word, the Bible. Psalm 36:7 says: "How precious your loyal love is, O God In the shadow of your wings, the sons of men take refuge." Nahum 1:7; God is "a stronghold in the day of distress. He is mindful of ["takes care of"] those seeking refuge in him." Please accept my sincere condolences. Always remember God loves you and he cares for you! (Psalm 34:18; Psalm 147:3)

We are saddened to hear you are grieving the recent loss of your loved one. In these tough moments, Psalms 34:18 is very comforting. It reads: “ Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Our loving God cares about us and is ready to bring us comfort if we allow him (1John 5:14). He also has made the SURE promise of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored into a beautiful paradise (Acts 24:15 Isaiah 55;11). See and imagine yourself welcoming back to life your dear loved one? This and more information about what God's Kingdom through his son Jesus will do after this resurrection can be found online at jw.org. Sincere and warmest condolences!
