It is with deep sorrow that our father/grandfather, Paul Torres (Pula), was called home on May 2, 2019 to be with our beloved mother and watch over us together as one. Paul was born on April 15, 1939 in Hillsboro, New Mexico to Esquipula and María (Madrid) Torres.

On January 28, 1967 Paul married the love of his life, Mary Sanchez, and spent many magnificent and blissful years together raising their children at the family home in Hillsboro, New Mexico. They would also enjoy being involved in their two grandchildren’s lives.

He is survived by his children: Angela Torres (Kenneth) of Truth or Consequences, NM and Brian Torres (Melissa) of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren - Joshua Torres (Allison) of Las Cruces, NM and Megan Torres Varela (Jose) of Andrews, TX; one great-grandchild, Aubrianna Torres of Las Cruces, NM; siblings: Greg Torres (Brenda) of Monticello, NM, Frances Armijo (Herman) of Albuquerque, NM and Richard Torres (Vicki) of El Paso, TX.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary T. Torres; his parents, Esquipula and María Torres; as well as, one sister, Minerva Oskins.

Paul proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps after graduation. He was a retiree of the New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department where he worked for 35 years. Paul also enjoyed hunting, team roping and riding horses with his family and friends. Dad was especially fond of the “apple of his eye” his great-granddaughter, Aubrianna, who would make his face light up with joy each time he was with her. He was a cowboy through and through who lived his life with honor and integrity. He was most proud of his family whom he so dearly loved.  “Semper Fidelis”

Cremation will take place and a Prayer Vigil will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019, at 6:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church led by Gary Montoya.  A Memorial Celebration Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 10:00 A.M. celebrated by Rev. Don Hyatt, CSB.

I always admired and respected Mr. Torres; he let me handle a small legal matter for him when I first came into town in the early 1980’s as a young lawyer who no one knew or trusted. He and his wife were always nice to me and were an ideal Christian couple. He was a great Roman Catholic and a true family man. May God rest his soul; we should rejoice as he is with his beloved wife and the Lord! Peace and prayers to the family. Mark Filosa

I am truly sorry for your loss, please accept my sincere condolences. I hope the Torres family find comfort and strength in Jesus promise along with our Heavenly Father Jehovah of the earthly resurrection found at John 5:28, 29, when death will be eliminated forever found at  Revelations 21:4. Truly, what a glorious and almost unbelievable day that will be! It's a reality though for God cannot lie!

adios my hillsboro boyhood friend and distant cousin. If there is a heaven you certainly have headed there. I have many fond memories of our childhood. If there are horses and roping in heaven you'll fit right in "BOY"

Paul (and Mary) were our next door neighbors for 26 years and they were the best ones anyone could hope for. We surely missed Mary and now are shocked to have heard of Paul's passing when we were visiting kids in Santa Fe. I look across the yard daily and think of Paul. Lovely man. We enjoyed his company. (And Mary's back in the day.) Our empathy and sympathy to all members of the close knit family...
