Mrs. Doris Ann Wheeler, 82, of Elizabethtown passed peacefully Friday, April 12, 2019, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Mrs. Doris Brashear Wheeler was a well-known resident of Elizabethtown and the daughter of the late Eva Mae Abramson and Leonard Johnson.  She was baptized at First Baptist Church at 12 years old and was an engaging and helpful member for 70 years until her health slowed her efforts in 2008.   She was a Kentucky Colonel and served in many volunteer roles (Crusade for Children, United Way) within the communities (Elizabethtown, Radcliff, and Fort Knox).

Her main job profession was the Cashier Manager at the Fort Knox PX and retired after 32 years.   She was well-respected by her coworkers and military personnel for her work diligence, consistency, and loving support.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Doris Brashear Wheeler was preceded in death by a daughter in 1966, Yolanda Wright.

Survivors include two daughters, Dolvinia Wright of Radcliff, KY and Sonya Wade (Lawrence) of Radcliff, KY; four sons; Curtis Wright of Elizabethtown, KY, Tim Brashear (Gwendolyn) of Radcliff, KY, Farley Brashear of Elizabethtown, KY, and Ron Brashear (Audrey) of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Evelyn June Sturkey Hoyle (Herman) of Houston, Texas;  14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, friends, mentees, and admirers.

Funeral service is  1:00 PM Thursday, April 18, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Elizabethtown with Rev. Jones Roderick officiating.  Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Percell & Sons Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the March of Dimes or Crusade for Children.

    We're so sorry to hear you are mourning the recent loss of your loved one. May you find strength and comfort from the words of Psalms 46:1 which reads: "God is our refuge and strength, A help that is readily found in times of distress." Our loving God is there for us if we ask for his help (1 John 5:14). He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11).
