MR. MICHAEL HUGH ELLERBY

Michael Hugh Ellerby (Mike), 63, was called home to be with the Lord our God on March 23, 2019 at the Atrium Northeast Hospital in Concord, NC.  In his last days, Mike enjoyed the loving support of family and friends.  He is now in his eternal home with his Lord God and his mother, Ruth Elizabeth Peguese Ellerby.

Mike was born on November 1, 1955 in Wadesboro, NC to his parents Melton and Ruth Ellerby.  At the time of his birth, the family resided in Morven, NC.  Mike attended the Anson County Public School System; graduating from Bowman Senior High School in June 1974.  Upon graduation, he was admitted to attend North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.

Upon his return to Wadesboro, NC, Mike worked for several Anson County Manufacturing Companies, Badcock Furniture Store, and Quality Florist.

Throughout his life Mike was known as a person who engaged others.  Many remember their conversations with him, his laugh and his voice.  Mike was one of a kind!  He spoke his mind and would HELP anyone, anytime.  Mike helped many who needed help by providing transportation, housing, food, comfort, and a spirit of engagement and caring for those in need.

Mike was known as the “Mayor of Salisbury Street”.  He often would be seen walking Salisbury Street with his dog, Caine and engaging its residents.  He attended many County and City governmental meetings to advocate for the citizens of our town.

Mike was a lifelong member of Kesler Chapel AME Zion Church; but, he also later in his life attended and performed multiple volunteer services at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Both churches are located on Salisbury Street in Wadesboro, NC.

Mike was known for his open communication an engaging smile and laughter.  Wherever he went in Wadesboro, someone knew that voice before he was even seen.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother; Ruth Elizabeth Peguese Ellerby.  He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his father, Melton Ellerby (Luredean); his brothers, Timothy Ellerby (Valerie) and Brian Ellerby (Theresa); great aunt, Mildred Teal Jones (who will be 100 in June 2019); his aunt, Annie Mae Ellerby (who is 94); his aunt, Betty Joyce Peguese White of Ellicott City, MD; and his aunt, Carolyn Peguese Gatewood of Charlotte, NC.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loving family members.

The Homegoing Services to celebrate the Life, Legacy of “Mike” were held on Saturday, March 30, 2019, 12:00 noon, Smith’s Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, NC. Burial followed in Westview Memorial Park, Wadesboro, NC.

In lieu of flowers the Ellerby Family would like Memoriams sent to: Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church-The Soup Ministry, PO Box 302, Wadesboro, NC 28170 or Keslar Chapel AME Zion Church, 708 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, NC.

To the Ellerby Family, You have my deepest sympathy for the death of Michael. I knew Michael from a young child. I was able to watch him and his younger brothers grow up and become supportive men. To lose Michael n death has been tragic and your sorrow overwhelming. "Moreover, may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave everlasting comfort and good hope by means of undeserved kindness, comfort your hearts and make you firm in every good deed and word." -2 Thess. 2:16,17

God strengthens by giving us "the power beyond what is normal" to make it through each passing day. Psalm 46:1 says: "God is our refuge and strength, a help that is readily found in times of distress." Nahum 1:7; God is "a stronghold in the day of distress." He is mindful of ["takes care of"] those seeking refuge in him." Please accept my sincere condolences. Always remember God loves you and he cares for you! (Psalm 36:7; 1 Peter 5:7)
