Billy Ray Finger was born on July 28, 1953 in Gastonia, North Carolina to Anne Farris Ross and the late John Robert Finger.  He departed this life on Tuesday; February 26, 2019 in Cebu City, Philippines.

Billy Ray or “Tricky” as he was affectionately called, was a twenty-three-year veteran of the United States Navy and retired in 1994 as an aviation structure mechanic Senior Chief (E8). He specialized in aviation.  He was assigned to several ships and received numerous commendations, ribbons and medals.  He served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield.  

Billy was a sheriff’s service technician in Ventura County, California.  He was assigned to the pre-trial detention facility and Todd Road jail where he trained many staff members both sworn and non-sworn.  He was full of information and always willing to assist the department, whether in words of wisdom or helping with policy and procedure.  He was dependable, hardworking and well respected by his peers.  He has always believed in accountability for responsibility.  His smile, laughter, and sense of humor will never be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his father and sister: Maryann McCarter.

Precious memories will be cherished by his wife of thirty-four years: Araceli Finger of Oxnard, CA; his sons: Kevin Williams (Robbin) of Eustis, FL, Anthony Williams (Lisa) of Corpus Christi, TX, Reggie Finger (Jessica) of Auburn, TX, Bryson Finger (Denise) of Killeen TX and Billy Ray Finger, Jr., of Clairton, TX; his daughters: Donyel Barnett of Gastonia, NC, Stacey Stark of Charlotte, NC and Keisha Finger-McMillan (Tayvon) of Duquesne, PA; his mother: Anne Farris Ross; brothers: William Gilmore and Terry Gilmore both of Gastonia, NC; sisters: Patsy Farris Williams (Kenneth) of Dallas, NC, Phyllis Farris “DeeDee” Gore (William) of Gastonia, NC and Johnnie Mae Finger and a host of other relatives and friends.
 

Funeral:  Tuesday; March 19, 2019; New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church-3041 Northwest Blvd, Gastonia

Visitation: thirty minutes before the service at the church

Interment: Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia
