Jesus has risen and so has she.  We celebrate the life of Hazel Cheek Goldston and the calling of her home by the Lord.  Born June 9, 1922 to Bassie Lee Cheek and Alberta McDaniel Cheek, Hazel Goldston transitioned from her earthly life to eternal life on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Hazel attended the Randolph County Training School which was later known as Central High School.  Hazel was one of the first black women in Randolph County to operate her own business.  At one time, the name of the business was Hazel Goldston Concrete.

Hazel was a well-known seamstress who made clothes for herself, her daughters Shirley and Sonya and for others in the community.  She was an Honorary Worthy Matron of Unity Chapter #522A Order of Eastern Star, PHA.  Hazel was one of the oldest members of The Randolph County ECA Club.  In May 2018, she received an award of appreciation for twenty-five years of dedicated service to the ECA Club.  She also served as their treasurer for many years.  Hazel was a faithful member of McCrary Chapel United Methodist Church.  She was known as the “Mother” of the church because of her being the oldest member.  She served on the Trustee Board, was a member of the Chancellor Choir, and the United Methodist Women.  Hazel gave unselfishly of her time and gifts to those in need.

Hazel’s parents, six brothers, five sisters and granddaughter, Raychelle Elizabeth (deceased April 24, 1993) were called home to be with the Lord before her.  Also, preceding her into eternity was her husband, Ashley “Fat” Goldston. This union produced five lovely children: Ashley Jodene (deceased June 4, 2012), Shirley Evon (deceased November 16, 2015), Boyce Erastus (deceased July 8, 1974), Larry Lee and Carnell Goldston. Hazel was also mother to a very special granddaughter, Sonya Goldston.

Those who will treasure her in loving memory are her sons, Larry Lee with wife, Brenda and sons, Larry D., Ashley Jerrod, and daughter, Sonya Goldston: Carnell with wife, Estelle and sons, Christopher C. and Adrian C.; grandchildren, Anthony Jodene, Christopher E., Sharel Ann, Jeffrey Glenn, Gail S., Gordon Elliott, Kim Quinn, Boyce Jr. and Tyrone Richard; twenty-six great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; a loving sister, Faye Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; a special niece, Diane Spencer; two special cousins; Chad Spencer, Classie Cheek, and a special friend, Treva Marley.

Funeral service will he held Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at McCrary Chapel United Methodist Church, 217 Highway 49.  Interment will follow at Oakland McCrary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service Inc., High Point, NC.

My prayer is that you will find strength in Jehovah God’s words to help you to endure this tragic loss. My thoughts are with you and the family and how death robs us of our loved ones. Jehovah God has promised to remove death, sickness, and pain from the earth and reunite us with our loved one on a cleansed earth in the future. (Revelation 21:4; John 5:28,29; John 17:3; Psalms 83:18)  In the meantime you can be sure that God understands how you feel now! The Bible assures us: "He is healing the brokenhearted ones, And is binding up there painful spots." Psalms 147:3 jw.org (Website for more encouragement.)

We're sorry to hear about your recent loss. Accept our sincere condolences. May you find strength from the words of Philippians 4:13 which says: "For all things I have the strength through the one who gives me power." What a loving God who cares about each one of us. He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11). Can you see yourself welcoming back to life your loved ones? What a joy it will bring all of us. You can go online to JW.ORG and find out more about this resurrection.

Your loved one will never have to face that last enemy, death, ever again. in the meantime, her acts of faith live on until she stands up alive and whole in the Paradise. God is eager to do it again. Jehovah hates death; he views it as an enemy. ( 1 Corinthians 15:26 ) He has a longing to conquer that enemy, to undo death by means of the resurrection. He yearns to bring back those who are in his memory and to see them live on earth again.- Job 14:14,15. Please visit our website www.jw.org to find out more about the promised resurrection.
