Reverend Thomas Edward McDow
[Sleep On and Take Your Rest]

The Final Chapter in the life of Rev. Thomas “Tom” Edward McDow was written on Sunday morning, February 17, 2019 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, in Huntersville, NC.  He fought a good fight, he finished his race and kept the faith, being obedient to the “Will of the Master.” Tom answered the “Master’s Call,” well done my good and faithful Servant, he smiled at his brothers, then made his “Transition” quietly in a peaceful sleep.

The late Rev. Thomas “Tom” Edward McDow made his glorious entrance into this world on, May 18, 1945 in York, SC. He was the second of eleven children born to the late Rev. Samuel and Dora Trapp McDow. Being reared in a Christian home, Tom joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, in Fort Lawn, SC, at a very early age and he was called to “preach” the Holy Word of GOD in 1985.  He served for a number of years as an Assistant Pastor of New Zion under the leadership of the late Rev. Jeremiah Robinson.  He retired from the ministry due to heart failure. Tom continued to satisfy his hunger for the “Word of God” under the Anointed Ministry of Pastor Daryal Mayfield and the New Saint Paul Holiness Church until his death.

Tom was educated in the York County School System. He worked for LAND O’ LAKES, INC. for 20+ years. He retired from Land O’ Lakes, Inc. in October, 2014. After retiring, Tom worked for a few years delivering The Charlotte Observer.

To know Tom was to love him. He was a magnificent and amazing man; who loved to talk. He loved gardening, fishing, and he especially loved working on small engines and lawn mowers. He was a faithful and hard worker until his health began to fail him.

Tom was a wonderful, caring man; the kind of person that shared compassion and love to everyone he came in contact with. His helpful and loving spirit will continue to live on.

In addition to his mother and father:  the late Rev. Samuel and 1st Lady Dora T. McDow, Sr.; Tom was preceded in death by his sisters; Eva M. Cunningham, Catherine M. Barnes, Brenda M. Grier and Francis McDow; and his brothers, Samuel McDow, Jr. and James McDow.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories to his loving wife of 10 years, Lavoris Ann B. McDow “Ann”; three wonderful daughters; Lakisha McDow Heath, Teresa McDow and Celia McDow, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; two step-sons; Mario A. Boyd, of Detroit, MI and Todd Heath of Winston Salem, NC; four brothers: Clayton McDow, of Lancaster, SC; Rev. Jerry McDow (Deloris) of Rock Hill, SC.; Curtis McDow of Durham, NC, and Larry McDow (Sabrina) of Atlanta, GA.; three brothers-in-law: Ronald Boyd; Donald Boyd and Timothy Smith(Felicia) all of Charlotte, NC; three sisters-in-law: Candice Boyd, of Charlotte, NC; Priscilla and Miriam Smith of Mt. Holly, NC; 7 grandchildren, 1 Great-Grandchild and 4 adopted Grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart.  Tom also leaves four generations of nieces, nephews, close cousins/relatives and special friends.

We're so sorry to hear you are mourning the recent loss of your loved one. May you find strength and comfort from the words of Psalms 46:1 which reads: "God is our refuge and strength, A help that is readily found in times of distress." Our loving God is there for us if we ask for his help (1 John 5:14). He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11). Can you see yourself welcoming back to life your loved ones? What a joy it will bring all of us. You can go online to JW.ORG and find out more about this resurrection.
