Mr. Melvin Odell Thompson transitioned on Wednesday; February 13, 2019 at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, North Carolina.  He was born on June 8, 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Joe William Thompson and the late Virginia Thompson.

Melvin attended North Gaston High School and finished the eleventh grade.  He was retired from Ratchford Tire where he was employed for thirty years.

Melvin loved his family and working on cars, changing tires, going fishing and just living and having fun.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

He leaves to cherish many wonderful memories to his brother: Robert Thompson (Frances) of York, PA, three sisters: Connie Thomas (Lawrence) of Gastonia, North Carolina, Cathy Thompson (Prentice) of Dallas, North Carolina and Ruby Henry (Patrick) of Conway, South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Service: Sunday; February 17, 2019; 12:30 p.m.; Gregory Funeral Service Chapel-601 N. York Street, Gastonia

Visitation: thirty minutes before the service at the chapel

    We're sorry to hear about your recent loss. Accept our sincere condolences. May you find strength from the words of Philippians 4:13 which says: "For all things I have the strength through the one who gives me power." What a loving God who cares about each one of us. He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11).
