Dr. Vivian Campbell Pennamon, 77, died peacefully in her home on December 26, 2018 after battling with metastatic breast cancer.

Dr. Pennamon was born on March 29, 1941 in Waynesboro, Georgia to Ms. Lizzie Williams Gordon and Mr. Jim Campbell. She graduated from Waynesboro High & Industrial School in June 1959. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in June 1964 from Edward Waters College, Jacksonville, Florida; a Master of Education Degree in August 1976 from Augusta College, Augusta, Georgia; an Education Specialist Degree in June 1981 from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia and a Doctor of Education degree in May 1991 from South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, South Carolina.

She was truly a unique and special person who influenced many lives throughout her approximately 35 years as a professional educator and community leader. Dr. Pennamon was best known for her work as a middle school administrator and the driving force behind Richmond County's model middle school, the pilot program at East Augusta Middle School. She was the first administrator to receive a principalship at a school with a predominate population of opposite race students, and the first female administrator, since Miss Lucy C. Laney, to be appointed principal of an inner-city high school. She served in the capacity of principal of elementary, middle, and high schools such as Jenkins Elementary, Wheeless Road Elementary, Morgan Road Middle School, T.W. Josey High School, and A. R. Johnson Magnet School. Her students' success and personal growth were a lifelong professional and a personal passion. After retirement, she served as a consultant for the Richmond County Board of Education.

Dr. Pennamon was a devout Christian and dedicated her life to serving God as a member of Belle-Terrace Presbyterian Church located in Augusta, Georgia. She served in many capacities including Usher, Treasurer, Teacher, Moderator of Belle-Terrace Presbyterian Women, Clerk of Session, and Elder. In addition to her responsibilities within the local Church, she was Vice-Chair of Church Women United, Chair of the Communication/Links Network Ministry Team and Commissioner to General Assembly for Northeast Georgia Presbytery, Chair of the Permanent Judiciary Committee for the South Atlantic Synod, and a honorary life member of the Women Presbyterian Church (USA),

As a civic-leader, Dr. Pennamon served on the Admissions Committee for Medical College of Georgia Schools of Medicine and served on the Board of Directors for Leadership Augusta, Foothills Area Health Education Center, and Boggs Community Development Corporation. She loved helping others as evident by the time she dedicated to serving the community via various civic and social organizations such as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Top Ladies of Distinction Incorporated, The Red Hat Society Incorporated, and The Les Ames Libres "The Lively Ones" Club.

Dr. Pennamon is survived by her mother, Ms. Lizzie Williams Gordon; Sister, Luvenia (a.k.a Lisa) Gordon Dukes (John Dukes); Aunt, Alice Campbell Johnson, and several other aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. In her heart, her most significant accomplishment and what she cherished the most was being the mother of Alexcia (a.k.a. Fran) O'Neal Delley (Jay Delley), Robert Pennamon Jr. (Angela Caroline Jordon), and Calvin Pennamon (Milena Aleksieva Pennamon). This accomplishment was only heightened when she became the proud and dedicated grandmother of Tiffany Robi Pennamon, Cydney Alexcia Delley, Robert Pennamon III, Jayson O'Neal Delley, Clemetine River Jordon, Kalina Vivian Pennamon, and Danika Antonia Pennamon.

Per her wishes, she was cremated on December 28, 2018. A private memorial service was held in her honor on December 30, 2018 and her body was laid to rest in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Tybee Island. She requested that her family thank everyone who supported her throughout her career and life.

The family would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support they have received. They also request everyone to respect this phenomenal women's unique homegoing wishes during this very difficult time for all who truly knew and loved her. You may honor Dr. Pennamon's memory by making donations to the American Cancer Societyin her honor.
