William “Fred” Horn Sr., Educator, Coach and former State Senator, of Birmingham, AL, departed this life December 7, 2018. He gave a life-time of service to his community, country and family.  Fred enjoyed an illustrious career as teacher, counselor and coach at Washington Elementary, Western-Olin (now Jackson-Olin) and Parker High Schools.  He retired from Birmingham City Schools as Director of Middle School Athletics. 

In the political realm, The Honorable William Fred Horn was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives where he served for one and one-half terms before moving to the state Senate after a special election to fill the vacated seat in District 18. Horn was in the Senate until 1994 and served on several committees, most notably as Chairman of the powerful Finance and Taxation Committee. He also remained engaged in other roles in the church and community as a youth mentor and political advisor. 

In addition to his parents, Dawson and Gracie Horn and siblings, Fred was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Douglas Horn; daughter, Karen Horn; and grandson Kevin Horn. He leaves to cherish his memory; sons, William Horn, Jr. (Donna); Darryl Horn (Carolyn); and daughter, Geri Horn Albright; beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018, 12:00 noon at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church (132 6th Ave. S., Birmingham 35205) with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Bushelon Funeral Home directing.  A public visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 8p on Friday at Bushelon Funeral Home (800 14th Street SW, 35211).

    To the Family of Mr.Horn , I'm sorry for your lost I have recently lost a loved one in death. However the Bible gives us, hope as we read Rev 21:4 we can look to see them again. Heb 2:14 helps us to see who causes death,When God's Kingdom is realized as mentioned in Matt.6: 9,10.We can hope to see our loved ones again as stated in Acts 24:14.Hope and comfort comes from Gods word.
