Dorothy Cathcart (fondly known as Mama Dot), fought a good fight and finished her course on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Huntersville Oaks, Huntersville NC under the watchful eye of Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.

Dorothy was born on February 16, 1928 in Gaston County, North Carolina to the Late Alonzo Cathcart, Sr. and Elizabeth V. Cathcart.

Dorothy was a faithful and dedicated member of O’Connor Grove A.M.E Zion Church in Belmont, NC. She served on the Church Usher Board, and was a Life Member of the Women Home Overseas Missionary, which she served as President for O’Connor Grove Church. Although she didn’t join the choir there, she decided to start her “singing career” with the Nursing Home, Huntersville Oakies!

She graduated from Reid High School in Belmont, NC and shortly after sharing her skills and knowledge in agencies in the Belmont Community, she soon became our family first Entrepreneur by opening her own Cafe, Dots Grill.  (hmmm yum). Under the watchful eye of her father and mother, she entrusted the Cafe to her parents. She then started her Vocational journey with Vision Hosiery and retired after over 20 years of service. But she was not ready to stop. She then started another journey with Wendy’s in Belmont and retired from there after receiving awards and her 10 year pin. Then in her 80’s she decided, she was ready to stop the employment journey and just enjoy her life traveling, trying different and “All Foods”, and mainly her family and friends.

She was a caretaker for her parents and after their passing, became a loving caretaker for her sister. Mom love her neighbors, the Reid High Community, and car rides with her friend, Mrs. Dorothy Hager. She also enjoyed her “grandmother’s role babysitting for her four legged grandson, Willie. How often I heard her tell everyone she and her sister were packing for the week-end to go babysit her Grandson and everyone knew who it was and how excited she would be.

She is now reunited with family, parents, siblings (Nathaniel and Yancey Cathcart) and especially her son, Samuel Scott Cathcart.

Dorothy leaves to cherish a daughter, “her baby” Harriett C. Feimster of Charlotte, NC, brother, Alonzo Cathcart Jr. (Mozelle) of Gastonia, NC; a very special and loving niece, Mrs. Tony C. Kee (Tony) of Gastonia, NC, nephews: Anthony M. Cathcart of Gastonia, NC and Wilburt Cathcart (Alice) of Gastonia, NC, and a host of loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also her beloved adoptive family, The Faulkners and Ms. Delores Moss Hoover, Charlotte, NC.

Her beautiful and warm smile and hearing, “hey baby” will be truly be missed.

Funeral: Saturday; December 15, 2018; 1:00 p.m.; O'Conner Grove AME Zion Church-613 Main Street, Belmont

Visitation: one hour before the service at the church

Interment: Henry's Chapel Cemetery, Belmont
