The Obituary

Alester Moore, April 18, 1962 -November 6, 2018, son of loving parents, Rose Moore and Jack Harriton.

A seed was planted on April 18, 1962. The seed grew into a tree, “A Giving Tree”, God named this tree Alester Moore. God called this tree to sprout its roots in the word of the Lord; and he accepted his call in the AME Church in 1992. He was ordained an Elder in the AME Church under Bishop Z. L. Grady in 1994;and later that year he was assigned the pastor of Grant Chapel AME under the Missionary Rule. After two years of service he became sick and came out of pastorialship. In 2003 Alester joined St. Paul AME Church in Birmingham, Al under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Betty C. Robinson. When Reverend Dr. Betty C. Robinson was appointed Handy Chapel AME Church in Gadsden, Al’, he followed. As this tree continued to grow, he united with his loving and devoted wife, Teresa Fikesand together they grewGod designed this tree to be a flowing tree; so therefore he fathered four handsome sons, Alquam Moore, Lamar Moore, Darrin (Sontonia) Fikes, and Michael(Orsola) Fikes; three beautiful daughters, Alia Moore, Brittney Fikes, and Jasmine Fikes; and fifteen wonderful grandchildren, who will always remember him as sheltering, protecting, and loving. The tree branched out to his beloved siblings, sister Sheurika (Tony) Slaughter, and brother Raymond Armstrong Jr.

His limbs stretched out to his sisters-in-law, Priscilla(Jerome) McCantsIrma Fikes Byers, Regina Looney, Evyone (Earl) Dudley, Zallancia (Stokes) Spencer, Alkeeda (Ulysses) Johnson; and brothers-in-law, Charlie Lapsley, Roosevelt(Deanna) Lapsleyand Donald (JerondaMorganaunt Carol Gregory, uncle William Moore, nieces, nephews, cousins, loving friends, and a special friend Reverend Osie (Cindy) Nelson. He touched, inspired, and motivated many people he encountered through the Lord’s Word and his vision A&T Heavenly Flavors. This tree was truly a tree planted, nurtured and “covered by God”. Its presence will be dearly missed working on the Evangelism Team, sharing in Bible study teaching, and as the Sunday School superintendent at Handy Chapel AME Church. Its leaves have been spread throughout Gadsden and surrounding areas including Emma Sansom Middle School, Gadsden Middle School, and the Titans Little League football games; where he was affectionately known as “The Italian Ice Man.” The tree died on November 6, 2018, but the fruit it produced and the memories of its limbs will continue to grow.
