Mrs. Barbara Jean Walker Hill, 78, 3363 Oakwood Circle, Petersburg, peacefully departed this life Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at  Southside Regional Medical Center. Born September 1, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama to Mattie Mae Walker and Thomas L. Greene.  She was educated in the Birmingham Public School System and was a graduate of  Ullman High School, Class of 1958. 

Barbara  married  SGM (Ret.) Walter J. Hill and  celebrated 58 years of matrimony  July 2018.  In addition to being a military spouse, Barbara worked in the retail business including J.M. Baker Shoes Company, Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and Marshalls Department Store. 

She was a former member of  Fort Lee Non-Commissioned Officers’ Wives’ Club, Life Member of VFW Post 622 Auxiliary, Southside Regional Chapter Senior Circle, and member of the Petersburg Alumni Chapter Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, stepfather, one sister and brother, Deputy Police Chief Robert Walker of Birmingham. 

She is survived by her husband, Walter Hill and son, Henry Hill (Sonja) both of New Kent, VA; three grandchildren, Darryl Hill (Tanesia) of Virginia Beach, VA; Henry Andre Hill of Petersburg, VA, and Brittnae Hill of Dumfries, VA; four great grandchildren, Deneshia, Zymareon, Daijah and Aleigha: one uncle, Hozie Walker, Jr. (Eloise) of Detroit, MI; sister-in-law, Carolyn Walker; a niece, KeArian Harris of  Birmingham, AL;  two nephews, Robert Walker, Jr. and Roderick Walker of  Birmingham, AL;  and a host of devoted cousins and other relatives and friends too numerous to name.

Visitation will be held from 1 - 6 PM Saturday, November 3 at Bushelon. Services will be held 12:00 Noon Monday, November 5, 2018 in Bushelon Funeral Chapel. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, AL.
In Lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions be made to the Ullman High School Alumni Foundation.
