Leonard Sylvester Good, “Butch”, was born on September 9, 1952 to the late Essie Mae Good (Lucky) in Newark, New Jersey. As a baby, he was delivered to his great uncle and aunt, the late Roosevelt T. and Eloise G. Smith, who raised him as their son in Gastonia, NC.

Butch was educated in the Gaston County Schools and was employed by Gaston Memorial Hospital for many years. Early on, Butch developed a love for fast cars and motorcycles which later became his second career, working at Russell’s Auto Body Shop. He took pride in painting his Corvettes and Harley Davidson’s with different scenes and themes.

On October 10, 2018, Butch transitioned from this life to his eternal one. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Sarah Pettis Good; his older brother: Theodore R. T. Smith; two older sisters, Pauline S. Nichols and Margaret S. Roseboro.

He leaves to cherish fond memories, his son, Leonard J. Good of Chicago, IL; four daughters, Angela Pettis Good, LaTanya Craig-Glenn, and Nikki Adams all of Gastonia, NC and Lindsay Tramel-Jones of the U. S. Army, nine grandchildren; one great grandson; his oldest sister, Mary S. Craine (Dupree) of Newport News, VA, his younger brother, Jeffrey Lucky of Newark, NJ, and a host nephews, nieces, and cousins and friends.

For the past year and a half, Leonard lived at the Magnolia Creek Assisted Living Facility in Winston Salem, NC. His transition from independent living to an assisted care facility was not the easiest but with the support of a great staff and his niece, Ms. Karen “Red” Miller, he adjusted. A special thanks to the staff of Magnolia Creek for their care and compassion.

We are saddened to know you are grieving the recent loss of your loved one. May you find comfort in the words found in Psalms 34:18 which reads: “ Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Our loving God cares about us and is ready to bring us comfort if we allow him (1John 5:14). He also has made the SURE promise of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored into a beautiful paradise (Acts 24:15 Isaiah 55;11). See and imagine yourself welcoming back to life your dear loved one? Find out more about this resurrection online at JW.ORG
