Michael Anthony Barnwell was born on April 4, 1966 to the late Robert “Bobby” Wright and the late Mary Jane Barnwell in Gastonia, North Carolina.  He was raised by Nathaniel Sadler "Uncle Otis” and the late Violet Wright Sadler.  He departed this life suddenly on Friday; September 14, 2018 at home.

Michael was educated in the Gaston County School System and attended Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia, North Carolina.  He was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Michael was employed by the City of Mt. Holly for seventeen years for the Sanitation Department.  His favorite football team was the Carolina Panthers.  “He loved to eat chicken.”

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents by his sisters: Mary Jarret, Bertha Barnwell and Lila Ann Barnwell.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories to his wife of seven years: Janice Barnwell; daughters: Latoya Renee Smyre of Charlotte, North Carolina and Ralphine Coxton (Michael) of Gastonia, North Carolina; brothers: Eddie Barnwell (Starlene) of Gastonia, North Carolina, Frank Barnwell and Keith Barnwell (Marcia) both of Washington, DC; Ronnie Barnwell (Marketta) of Gastonia, North Carolina; sister: Joanne Barnwell of Washington, DC; grandsons: Anthony McCoy, Jr. (Troyanna), Malik Brown; granddaughter: Shadreka Lowery (O’Brian, Sr.); three great grandchildren, special niece: Layla Wilson and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral:  Saturday; September 22, 2018; 2:30 p.m.; Gregory Funeral Service Chapel-601 N. York Street, Gastonia

Visitation: thirty minutes before the service at the Chapel

Interment: Armstrong Cemetery, Gastonia
