Obituary

Mother Mary Ethel Alford was born June 29, 1933 to the late Eddie B. Harrell and Susie Mae Jones Harrell in Lumpkin, Stewart County, Georgia. She was the youngest  of two children. Her brother, J.C. Harrell preceded her in death.

 

She attended public school in Lumpkin, Stewart County, Georgia. She was a domestic worker for several years. Sister Alford joined St. Mark AME Church in Lumpkin, Georgia where she was a long time member.

She moved around from Neal, Concord and Molena, Georgia doing domestic work. While in Molena, Georgia she moved her church membership to Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member, singing in the choir and doing other works of the church. Sister Alford faithfully cared for her family and friends.

 

While in Molena, Georgia she met and married Mr. Elijah Darden, Sr. He preceded her in death. To that union two children were born. Time passed and she married Mr. Julious  Alford. He preceded her in death. Four children were born to that union. Sister Alford began working at Martha Mills in Thomaston, Georgia where she became disabled.

She spent several years at Providence Health Care of Thomaston, Georgia before being transferred to Warm Springs Medical Center Nursing Home in Warm Springs, Georgia where her daughter, Mae Alford, is employed and kept watch over her daily. She passed on August 1, 2018 after a lengthy illness.

 

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Mrs. Susie (Alvin) Harps of Jonesboro, Georgia, Ms. Delois Harrell  and Mr. Elijah Darden Jr., both of Thomaston, Georgia, Mrs. Mary (Deloach) Ponder of Hampton, Georgia, Ms. Mae Julia Alford, Ms. Hazel Alford, Mr. Timothy Lee (Adella) Alford and Mr. Christopher Benard Alfrod all of Thomaston, Georgia; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren also survived; three Godsons, Mr. Willie Durham, Mr. Julious Alford, Jr. and Mr. Bobby Alford; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Sarah Holt of Pensacola, Florida; one brother-in-law, Mr. Ronnie Darden of Atlanta, Georgia and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.

 

Funeral Services were held

    We're so sorry you are mourning the loss of your dear loved one. Not much can soothe the pain this sorrow brings, but we hope the words of Psalms 34:18 can help some. It reads: “Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit.” We can rely on our loving God to provide comfort in these troublesome times. He also has made the sure promise of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored into a beautiful paradise! (Acts 24:15; Psalms 37:9-11, 29).
