Mrs. Ella Jean Adams Galloway was born October 14, 1928 in Gaston County to parents Howard Adams and Dora Mays.  She departed this life Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.

Ella Jean was a loving, cooking, funny, smart, strong and most of all a nurturing mother and grandmother who loved her family more than life itself.  She always made sacrifices for her family far greater than anyone will ever know.  She was a self driven person who at the age of fifty taught herself to drive, acquired her driver’s license and purchased her first a car. She was quite adamant about keeping a car after then and owned one even after she went into the Brookhaven Assisted Living Facility.

Ella Jean received her education and graduated from the acclaimed Lincoln Academy located in Kings Mountain, NC.  In that day and time, that was considered the equivalent to an Associate Degree from a community college today.  If she would have received a degree, it would have been in economics and finances.  She could save and stretch a dollar until its value doubled or tripled in size. She worked at various jobs over the years to include a seamstress for Danoca Industries, Inc. in Dallas, NC (now closed) and her last employment was as a Laundromat attendant in Gastonia, NC.

Ella Jean joined Unity African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church after she and Grady A. Galloway were joined in marriage.  He preceded her in death after forty-one (41) years of marriage. She was preceded in death also by a sister, Victoria Baker, a brother, Tommy Mays, a nephew that she raised from  infancy, Eddie Baker and a daughter, Carolyn Galloway Benson.

Ella is survived by two daughters, Linda G. Goins (Franklin), Greensboro, NC; Denise G. Ponder (Tony) and a son, Michael A. Galloway (Maggie) both of Gastonia, NC.  Eleven Grandchildren – A. Bryant Goins (Tonia), Boynton Beach, FL; R. Nicole Goins, Concord, NC; F. Christopher Goins, Chicago, IL; A. Michelle Crawford (George), Concord, NC; Yaqui Benson, Chicago, IL; Brandon Benson (Manami), Rowlett, TX; Keshia Crank (Marlon); Kayteresa Ponder both of Gastonia, NC; Casey Ponder, Kings Mountain, NC; Michellle and Monica Galloway, both of Gastonia.  Nine great grandchildren – Ashton Brean and Adriel Bayon Goins, both of Columbus, OH; Myles and Donovan Benson,  Rowlett, TX; Brianna Phifer, Concord, NC; Khyana Galloway, Quanmesha Dreher, KwaYai and Khymwan Ponder all of Gastonia, NC. And a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral: Saturday; July 28, 2018; 2:00 p.m.; Trinity-Unity AME Zion Church-1638 Freedom Mill Road, Gastonia

Visitation: one hour before the service at the church

Interment: Unity AME Zion Church Cemetery, Gastonia

We're sorry to hear about your recent loss. May you find strength from the words of Philippians 4:13 which says: "For all things I have the strength through the one who gives me power." What a loving God who cares about each one of us. He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11). Can you see yourself welcoming back to life your loved ones? What a joy it will bring all of us. You can go online to JW.ORG and find out more about this resurrection.
