William Albert Wilcox, long time resident of Elephant Butte, died June 14, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He spent his final days with his sister at her home in Elephant Butte. Albert will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Kevin Wilcox and Daniel Quist. He will also be remembered by his sister, Sandra Hopper. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Eli, Tristan, Adelaide, and Oliver. He is predeceased by his father, Cecil; his mother, Berna; and brother, Lee.
Known by many names, “Bill” was a committed father, a generous man, avid fisherman, and a caring friend. Albert believed that military service were the dues we pay for our democracy. He served two tours in Vietnam in the 238th Gunrunners and the 7/17 Air Cavalry. After leaving the Army, he worked for the El Paso Electric company, and the El Paso Fire Department. He retired as Fire Marshall for the City of El Paso in 1996.
A celebration of Albert’s life will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at his house at 8 Boatdock Road in Elephant Butte, New Mexico. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Albert to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, 904/296-7350.
