Mother Mattie Clyde Hobbs Wellmaker Traylor was born to the late Mrs. Annie Lee Hobbs Jones and the late Mr. William King on August 1, 1935.

Her early education was in the Fellowship Community School, and later, she attended Thomaston Training School.  She did not stop there. Later, she earned her GED.

During her early womanhood, she met and married Mr. Gus Thomas Matthews. To this union, two children were born. She later married Mr. Jodie Wellmaker. To this union, five children were born. To help support her children, she was employed by Martha Mills Textiles and also worked at Upson County Hospital.

Having six girls, she loved pressing and doing hair. She was able to earn a little income form pressing and curling. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and loved her family.

Mother Traylor later joined the Shady Grove Baptist Church. Here, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Mother’s Ministry, until her health failed. She loved the preaching of the word and witnessing the word being taught. She was not ashamed of the Gospel. She raised her family to know and love the Lord. She taught them how to sing and praise the Lord. She formed a family gospel group called  The Gospelets. One of her greatest joys was singing with the Middle Georgia Note Singers. She enjoyed traveling with the singers and sponsored a yearly singing event at her church.

During her later years, she married Mr. Robert Traylor on July 31, 2004. The two of them enjoyed retirement together, traveling, going to church, going to sing and spending time together. She completed him, and he completed her. The two of them enjoyed life to the fullest.

She enjoyed helping others, making new friends and making others laugh. She was joyful and full of life. She always wanted others to laugh and be joyful.
