Ms. Zelda Y. Brown, 52 , of Tifton, Georgia transitioned this life on Sunday, January 27th at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.  Funeral services are Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 2:30 P.M. at Beulah Hill Family Life Center.  Repast will follow at Springfield Baptist Church.

Dr. Zelda Yvette Brown, the beloved middle daughter of Samuel and Erma Brown, was born December 31, 1966 in Ocilla, Georgia.  Zelda attended Northside Elementary school and graduated from Tift County High School in 1984 where she was the first African American Salutatorian to address the graduating class. She was a member of the debate team and a sports editor for the journalism program.  After graduating high school, Zelda attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) where she was a member of the fabulous Gold dusters dance team. After two years of study at ABAC, she furthered her education at South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, SC, where she graduated Cum Laude with a BS degree in Mathematics.  She taught school in Berrien County for one year before her penchant for learning whisked her away to Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan.  She earned a Masters of Arts degree in Mathematics and was a Thurgood Marshall Fellow as well as a Wall of Distinction Honoree. Her steadfast pursuit of Academia culminated with a Doctorate of Education in Learning & Instruction in Mathematics from the University of San Francisco.   Zelda’s career path was concentrated in education although she spent a brief stint in corporate America with Dakin, Inc., a toy manufacturer.  Her education roles included lecturer, professor of mathematics, academic liaison and Director of Institutional Research with the prestigious Notre Dame de Namur University.  She devoted time to educational nonprofits, tutoring and motivating students to embrace math. Zelda was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend. She had a compassionate heart, a beautiful smile that could light up your soul and was an inspiration to many.  Fun-loving, opinionated and scholarly, she was passionate about politics and sports and was the ‘go-to’ person for everything politically related. She was well respected and adored by many. Those who knew her were always in for a great debate and was guaranteed to be schooled in the current events of the day.  Zelda’s achievements were varied and numerous. She enjoyed watching MSNBC, CNN, talking politics and studying the Bible with good friend and neighbor, Martha Pettiford.  In addition to having a voracious appetite for politics, she was a sports junkie and a real estate entrepreneur.  A woman of deep faith, she gave her life to the Lord at an early age.  Even as she battled cancer, she always had a positive disposition, a zest for life and a spirit of hope and courage.  Zelda Brown departed this life Sunday evening January 27, 2019 at the age of fifty-two.  Dr. Zelda Brown leaves to cherish her memory her loving parents, Samuel and Erma Brown, her sisters A. Felecia (Duchess) Brown and Greta J. Brown; her brothers Zerah H. Brown (Jaquetta), Gentry L. Brown, Samuel (Bob) Brown, Rodney L. Brown(Theresa) and Erasmus W. (Babyboy) Brown (Kyra) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

We're so sorry to hear you are suffering the loss of your dear loved one. May you find strength and some comfort in the words found in Nahum 1:7 which reads: ”Jehovah is good, a stronghold in the day of distress. He is mindful of those seeking refuge in him.” Our loving God cares about us and is ready to bring us comfort if we allow him (1John 5:14). He also has made the provision of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored into a beautiful paradise (Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55:11). Can you see yourself welcoming back to life your dear loved one? Find out more about this resurrection online at JW.ORG
