I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Coach Charles Shipp. He led our Essex High School basketball team to the school's first ever regular season District Championship and a Regional Runner up title in 1974. He was a great coach to me as a player and was a great friend as I entered into teaching and coaching and later school administration. Rest in Peace Coach Shipp. You taught me well.

Condolences to Family and Friends in the Loss of One of the County's Outstanding Teachers and Coaches. He was an educator in my hometown of Essex County beginning in the 70's. Even though I did not know him personally nor was I his student, I remember Coach Shipp's countless successful basketball teams, gleaning from classmates he was an outstanding coach, mentor, and role model with a soft-spoken, majestic style. His former wife, Mrs. Rena Roberts Shipp?, who still resides in the county, was an inspiration as well and continues to be generous, kind, and community-minded. Both Coach Shipp and Mrs. Shipp remain intricate parts of our county's very rich and blessed history.

Praying that God will continue to keep you in his care during this time and always. Mr. Shipp not only taught in the public schools of Essex County, VA but he also taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church as well. I remember him fondly singing with the male chorus at First Baptist and the senior choir.

Mr. Shipp was my teacher and my coach and I will always love him! Devastated by this news, especially since I didn’t know in time to pay my last respects. He made a difference in my life...and I speak of him often with my students and colleagues. His teachings and discipline molded a lot of young people’s minds. RIP Mr. Shipp until we meet again. ❤️

We are saddened to know you are grieving the recent loss of your loved one. May you find comfort in the words found in Psalms 34:18 which reads: “ Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Our loving God cares about us and is ready to bring us comfort if we allow him (1John 5:14). He also has made the SURE promise of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored into a beautiful paradise (Acts 24:15 Isaiah 55;11). See and imagine yourself welcoming back to life your dear loved one? Find out more about this resurrection online at JW.ORG
