DeAndre Marquise Ballard,23, of 3806 Sterling Pointe Dr., Winterville died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Duke University Medical Center.
Friends may express condolences at the home of Ernest and Verona Ballard 238 Staten Road, Rocky Run Community, New Bern.
The viewing is 1:00 PM Friday followed by the funeral at 2:00 PM Friday, September 28, 2018 at Without Limits Christian Center 102 Washington Post Rd.. The interment will follow at the Gooding Family Cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Ernisha Ballard, Winterville, NC; father, Martinez M. Becton, New Bern, NC; one brother, Xzavier Ballard, Winterville, NC; Anaiyah Ballard, Winterville, NC, Makeya Becton of Cleveland, OH; maternal grandparents, Iris Harris and Ernest Ballard; paternal grandmother, Stephanie Becton; step grandparents, Vernon Harris and Verona Ballard.
Flowers may be sent to Oscar's Mortuary 1700 Oscar Drive, New Bern.

It is with great sadness to learn that De’Andre such an outstanding young man’s life was taken so suddenly, this was a smart young man even at an early age, he was set to graduate next year with a BS degree at NCCU, what more could a mom ask for in her son! What is it about today’s society that can’t stand to see an educated young black man do well. As black women we must stay prayed up for our young black men and plead the blood of Jesus over our babies everyday!

I was DeAndre's Academic Advisor at NCCU when he started as a freshman, and I remember him as a kind young man who was always smiling.
