Rev. Brian Lamar Nixon, age 51, of 147 Elliptica Dr., Blythewood, South Carolina
transitioned on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at CHS-Cleveland, Shelby, North Carolina.
Brian was the only son of Clara and the late Herman Nixon, born on January 10, 1967 in Denver, North Carolina. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Sarah Whittington.
Brian accepted Christ at a young age and served in his youth at St. James UMC. He attended public school in Lincoln County, North Carolina and graduated from East Lincoln High School in 1985. He went on to attend North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina where he served in several organizations, culminating in serving as Student Body President. Brian graduated in 1990 with dual degrees in Economics and Business Management with a minor in African American Studies.
He was employed by DuPont Industries and subsequently Invista, serving in several different locations and leadership positions along the Eastern seaboard. In his final role, he served as the Operations Manager of Invista, Camden, SC.
Rev. Brian L. Nixon was ordained a minister at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, NC under the leadership of Rev. Sidney A. Locks Jr.. Under his ministerial care and thegodly pledge of loving accountability of the Sons and Daughters of Cornerstone, Brian blossomed in doing the Lord’s will and serving His people, with his ministries extending to the establishment of the Family Life Center
Funeral service is Friday, August 17, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at
St. James United Methodist Church with burial to follow
in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m at the church.
