Mr. Robert Earl Brown, of Greensboro, NC, known affectionately to some as “Rob”, “Bob” and “Brown” transitioned to his “Heavenly Home” to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 28, 2018. His funeral will be held 12:00PM at St. James Baptist Church, 536 W. Florida Street, Greensboro, NC. Visitation will start at 10:45AM at the church. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.
Robert was born on February 1, 1948 in Elm City, NC to the late William Edward Brown and Lillie Mae Farmer Brown. During his early education, he was a basketball athlete, and as a scholar he graduated with academic honors as class salutatorian at Frederick Douglass High School. Hearing the clarion call to serve his country as a solider, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, was promoted during his tenure to Master Sargent Rank and served his tour of duty faithfully in the Viet Nam War.
With a sharp focus on Business and Computer Technology he attended Farleigh Dickenson University in New Jersey and was employed at Bell Laboratory/Lucent Technologies. As a lifelong learner, Robert completed additional postgraduate studies at A &T State University in Greensboro, NC. Upon retirement, his unwavering commitment and “Call to Teach and Reach” children in the community, led him to enter the field of education where he successfully retired as an acclaimed Middle School Math Teacher within the Alamance-Burlington School district. Additionally, he was a faithful member of St. James Church until he became caretaker of his wife during her extended illness.
He was preceded in this life by his parents, a brother, a nephew and his wife, Margaret Johnson Brown. His memory will be forever cherished by his daughter, Temiko Nicole Brown, and grand-daughters, Shadesia Brown and Taylor Brown. Keeping his legacy in the hearts of our family are: Albert Brown (Thelma); Margaret Barnes; Joyce Walston (James), Ann Horne (Eddie); Ed Atkinson (Betsy), Larry Gully (Clyde); Percel Ham; the Farmer Family, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, out-of-town guest, as well as, his friends and colleagues.
